Did Nick Sirianni and Zach Ertz have to be separated following Eagles’ loss to Commanders?

Zach Ertz had one catch for 12 yards on two targets in the Commanders’ 36-33 win in Week 16, and with Philadelphia and Washington on a postseason collisions course, a wild-card matchup could be electric thanks to some postgame activity from last week.

Jeff McLane of The Inquirer reported on his ‘Uncovering The Birds’ podcast that Big Dom DiSandro had to separate Ertz and Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni post-game following a brief altercation.

In a photo taken by Inquirer staff photographer David Maialetti, Ertz can be seen conversing with Sirianni as the two walk off the field.

Neither the Eagles coach nor the Washington tight end wanted to get into what happened afterward in Landover, Md., on Sunday, but their brief dust-up saw Ertz take exception to a comment Sirianni made about his performance in the game, sources familiar with the incident told The Inquirer.

The two had to be separated by Eagles chief security officer Dom DiSandro, who then ushered Sirianni into the tunnel at Northwest Stadium.

“Both of us said ‘congrats’ to each other,” Sirianni told reporters after the game.

“We just exchanged holiday pleasantries and kept it moving,” Ertz told The Inquirer not long after.

McLane’s report says Ertz took exception to Sirianni’s comment about his performance in the game and that Sirianni later apologized to Ertz over a Zoom call.

Ertz was traded to the Cardinals after playing six games for the Eagles in Sirianni’s first season after spending nine years in Philadelphia.
