They hit The Ultimatum: Queer Love reunion as one, but did Lexi and Rae break up once the cameras stopped rolling?
This is one pairing that definitely made us weary. Lexi Goldberg, the fan-favorite of the series, issued an ultimatum to Rae Cheung-Sutton when she was wishy-washy about taking the next step in their relationship. Things only got worse once they entered the experiment and Vanessa Papa entered the equation.
Vanessa, the troublemaker of the series, had a connection with Lexi that went south very quickly when Lexi got the hunch she joined the series for the wrong reasons. The animosity only intensified when Vanessa paired up with Rae for their trial marriage and slept with her, while admitting to not being serious about the relationship.
Despite it all, this is one couple from The Ultimatum: Queer Love that promised one another forever. Did it stay that way?
Did Lexi and Rae break up after 'The Ultimatum: Queer Love'?
Although they were together at The Ultimatum: Queer Love reunion, it was revealed that Lexi and Rae broke up shortly afterward the special.
"It just kind of just got to a point where we couldn’t come to terms on certain differences," Rae admitted on Netflix Tudum.
Though she says she respects her former girlfriend, Rae believes that by stepping away from Lexi, the dominant partner in the relationship, she was able to find her voice and take more control. She's planning a move from Orange County to Los Angeles to begin anew.
Lexi, for her part, is thriving with a new career and a new love interest. And after the experience wrapped up, she found a close friend in her trial wife, Mal Wright, and claimed they'll be in one another's lives forever.
Why did Lexi and Rae break up?
Though they didn't necessarily come right out and say why they went their separate ways, both Lexi and Rae danced around the issue when speaking to Tudum. It appeared that Rae's intimate moment with Vanessa was too much for Lexi to move past.
"Things that still weren't sitting properly that we experienced on the show," she said.
Rae has a slightly different take on things and believes that changes they made ultimately caused a fissure in the union.
"Post-reunion, Lexi's lifestyle really changed, and our paths were kind of going in different directions," Rae alleged. "We both had a conversation where we sat down and said, 'I don't think that this is for us anymore.'"
Despite not currently being on speaking terms, they still claim to have respect for one another. At the moment, Lexi compares their relationship to being like "distant cousins" who will (hopefully) reconnect.
“There’s absolutely love there. There was a friendship there. There was respect there, and I will always maintain that," Lexi added.
At the end of the day, the Netflix series changed the couple's trajectory, and it seems like it was for the better.
"Everyone’s messaging me saying like, ‘Oh my God, are you okay?’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah, actually it all worked out the way it should," Rae said.
The Ultimatum: Queer Love is now streaming on Netflix.
