Did Gwyneth Paltrow Throw Shade At Meghan Markle In Her Latest Instagram Video?

Punters online are absolutely certain that Gwyneth Paltrow has thrown some impeccable shade at Meghan Markle in a 39-second video on Instagram. Is there any truth to the petty beef? Or is it another instance of the internet pitting women against each other? Let’s investigate.

In case you’ve somehow missed it, earlier this month Meghan Markle — or if you want to get particular about it, Meghan Sussex — released her lifestyle show on Netflix entitled With Love, Meghan. Filmed at her gorgeous estate in California, it received some mixed reviews.

Some viewers thought the whole thing was a badly put-together lifestyle show which featured Meghan attempting to be relatable but failing. However, others thought it was genuinely just a pleasant, lovely show.

As Mashable so aptly put it: “With Love, Meghan will not be everyone’s show. If it’s not yours, you can watch something else. But for people who feel empathetically tired for the Duchess of Sussex, enjoy watching one of the most vilified women on the planet find personal happiness and empowerment, and regularly binge-watch TikTok videos about hosting guests that you’ll probably never actually implement yourself, this show is for you.”

Where does Gwyneth Paltrow come into this? Well, on Sunday, the Iron Man star shared a cute lil’ video from her stunning Californian home cooking up some bacon, eggs and biscuits (the American kind). She was wearing pyjamas and clearly make-up-free as Natalie Cole‘s “This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)” played over the top.

Incidentally, it was the same song used in the promo for Meghan’s Netflix series.

Upon seeing the video, fans quickly started hypothesising that the sweet clip was a direct sledge at Meghan.

“Love this. No fake house, fake kitchen, fake hair extensions, fake friends, just your beautiful true self. Such a breath of fresh air to see,” commented an Instagram user.

“Meghan Markle gets schooled in the most elegant way by Gwyneth Paltrow who in less than one minute destroys her Netflix fake show! No make-up, no 80 crew, no special lighting, no ridiculous clothing. Heck! She doesn’t even say a word. With Love, Gwyneth!” someone wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

“Gwyneth Paltrow continues to throw shade and I’m here for it. No makeup in her actual kitchen!” commented an X user.

Although folks were quick to call beef between the women who navigate in similar circles of the lifestyle-product-toting internet, just days prior Gwyneth spoke to Vanity Fair about her thoughts on Meghan’s new offering.

“I was raised to see other women as friends, not foes,” Paltrow said.

“I think there’s always more than enough to go around. Everybody deserves an attempt at everything that they want to try.”

In fact, despite people comparing her lifestyle brand GOOP to Meghan’s As Ever, Gwyneth isn’t phased or threatened.

“I don’t know Meghan and Harry. I mean, I’ve met Meghan, who seems really lovely, but I don’t know her at all. Maybe I’ll try to get through their security detail and bring them a pie,” she said, noting that they’re basically neighbours living in the same area of Montecito California.

“[When] there’s noise about certain women in the culture, I do have, always, a strong instinct to stand up for them.”

Although there were clearly similarities between Gywneth’s video and Meghan’s series, I think we’re all getting a bit too hung up on the details.

Both women are incredibly wealthy and successful. They live in the same area and have similar interests. Does that mean there is automatic tension between them? No, it doesn’t. If anything, it might even indicate that they’d be pretty good pals.

Time and time again it’s almost like we struggle to comprehend two women operating in similar spaces and find success without there being any ill will. While we don’t know for sure whether there are any bad vibes between the two, I think it’s fair to say that we don’t have enough evidence to declare that Gwyneth’s sweet-natured cooking video is a direct sledge on Meghan.

So, unless Miss Gwynnie straight up comes out and says something a bit more direct, I think we can put this one to bed. Case closed.
