It’s the season for NFL schedule leaks and they typically come from all sorts of unique places. The latest could be a first-time occurrence as I don’t think an NFL player’s mother has ever leaked scheduling details before.
Donna Kelce, the mother of Chiefs TE Travis Kelce and Eagles C Jason Kelce, recently posted on Facebook about Kansas City’s expected trip to Germany. In the comment section of the post, someone suggested that the Super Bowl LVII rematch between the Chiefs and Eagles could take place in Week 1. Donna responded by saying the Chiefs would play the Eagles at Arrowhead Stadium in Week 2.

Now, there are some reasons for skepticism here.
First, we have to assume that bumping elbows with some NFL brass during all the Super Bowl festivities would give Donna early access to this information. We all know that she loves to travel to see both Travis and Jason play. It’s not too outlandish to think she has friends in high places, all things considered.
Next, this would mean that the Chiefs are getting back-to-back home games to start the season. They’ll open the season at home on Thursday, September 7th for their banner night, which is the tradition of all Super Bowl-winning teams.
Finally, opening the season on a Thursday at home means they would get extra time to prepare for the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 2. That game would most likely take place on Sunday, Sept. 17. That is, of course, unless the supposed Week 2 game is also a Thursday night game. That’s possible this year as NFL teams are allowed two games on “Thursday Night Football.” It also could be a “Monday Night Football” game, which would give the Chiefs even more time to prepare.
Sure enough, we’ll find out over the next two days whether this rumor turns out to be true or false.
