Dr Ernest Chi Fru, reader at Cardiff University, tells Tech & Science Daily about his latest study which places the emergence of complex life much earlier in Earth’s history.
The research found that complex life actually began around 1.5 billion years earlier than previously thought - before the explosion of life that Charles Darwin estimated to be around 542 million years ago.
Dr Chi Fru said they found evidence of complex organisms from a super localised part of the world, an area that is now Gabon in central Africa.
Their next step with the research is to compare these organisms with other artefacts from the time, and show that they are in fact real examples of complex biological life.
