Philippe Clement admits it’s “difficult” to say, in hindsight, whether he chose the right Rangers starting XI for their recent Scottish Cup tie against Queen’s Park.
The Rangers boss handed 18-year-old Bailey Rice a starting spot but substituted the young midfielder at half-time. January loan signing Rafael Fernandes was also given his first start, while back-up goalkeeper Liam Kelly replaced Jack Butland in goal for the fifth-round clash at Ibrox.
Rangers went on to lose 1-0 to their Championship opponents, effectively ending their chances of winning domestic silverware this season.
The inquest into what went wrong at Ibrox last Sunday afternoon is still ongoing.
"After the game, you can always say it was the wrong team," stated Clement.
"You can always say that. That's difficult.
"I said in the past at one time that I had too many young players. It was totally not the case now. So afterwards, you can always have this discussion that's inside and you don't know if it was with another one, if we would have had better results.
"At the end, we didn't get the results that we should have had and we should have taken and we didn't take."
