Clemson, S.C. (AP) - In a heartwarming return to the spotlight, ESPN's Dick Vitale received a warm welcome at Clemson's Littlejohn Coliseum as he made his comeback as a commentator after battling cancer for the fourth time. The 85-year-old Vitale, who had not called a game for ESPN in two years, was met with a standing ovation from the crowd as he entered the arena to call the Clemson-Duke game.

Before the game began, Vitale was greeted with cheers and applause as he made his way to his courtside seat. The PA announcer added to the excitement by delivering a spirited 'Dickie V, you're awesome, baby!' impersonation, further igniting the crowd's enthusiasm.

Clearly moved by the outpouring of support, Vitale acknowledged the crowd with a wave, prompting a nearly minute-long standing ovation from the fans in attendance. This emotional moment marked a triumphant return for Vitale, who has faced a series of health challenges in recent years.

Vitale's battle with cancer has been a public one, with the beloved commentator revealing that he has fought four different types of cancer over the past four years, including vocal cord cancer. However, in a positive turn of events, Vitale shared the news of his cancer-free status in late December, following his latest bout with the disease.

Sharing his joy and gratitude with his followers, Vitale took to social media to announce the clean bill of health he received after a PET scan. Expressing his thanks for the support and prayers he had received, Vitale humorously declared his victory over cancer, likening it to cutting down the nets in a National Championship win.

Having undergone surgery to remove cancerous lymph nodes from his neck earlier in the year, Vitale's journey to recovery has been marked by resilience and determination. His previous battles with melanoma, lymphoma, and vocal cord cancer have not deterred his spirit, as evidenced by his triumphant return to the commentary booth.

As Vitale continues to inspire with his courage and positivity, fans and well-wishers alike celebrate his return to the game he loves. His story serves as a reminder of the power of perseverance and the importance of cherishing each moment, both on and off the court.
