Channel 4 star Dick Strawbridge has opened up about the poignant reason he decided to call it quits on his beloved show, Escape To The Chateau.
Back in September, Dick, 63, and his wife Angel Adoree announced the popular reality series would be coming to an end.
The couple have since opened up about their decision, admitting that they weren't 'asked to stop' filming.
Escape to the Chateau, which originally launched back in 2016, had quickly become one of Channel 4's most popular shows - so naturally, fans were left shocked when the Dick and Angel announced they would no longer be continuing with the series.
Despite the fact that the pair lived and breathed the show, they felt it was time to stop production in a safety move for their family.
Speaking on the Radio Times’ View from my Sofa podcast, Dick explained: "No one has asked us to stop yet – that’s good.
"The children are turning nine and 10. They’ve had an innocence and joy in what we’ve done.
"We’ve got lots of things we still intend to do, but we want to protect the family part of it."
Announcing their departure from the series back in September, the couple released a statement in their newsletter.
At the time, they penned: "We are delighted to announce our ninth series of Escape to the Chateau will be starting soon in the UK. As soon as we have a date, you will be the first to know.
"Escape to the Chateau has been our family journey; our decision to buy a Chateau with no water, electricity, heating or sewage has taken us on the adventure of a lifetime and we could never have imagined what would unfold.
"The good, the bad and the ugly… we have cherished every second and love that we have a visual record to show Arthur and Dorothy when they're older.
"We're so grateful to everyone who continues to support us and we're looking forward to what the future holds. As one Chateau chapter ends, so another Chateau story begins."
Escape to the Cheateu airs Sunday from 8pm on Channel 4.
