Diamond days for Lanarkshire couple as they mark wedding anniversary

It was a romance that blossomed over a knickerbocker glory - and 60 years later one Lanarkshire couple are still just as sweet on each other as ever.

Jim and Nancy Cross celebrated their diamond wedding last week with family and friends, as well as a letter from King Charles.

The couple grew up in Bridgeton and Dalmarnock but have lived most of their lives in Rutherglen.

They met in 1962 in the "Kit-Kat" Cafe on Springfield Road and initially got to know each other while having a knickerbocker glory.

They both shared a love of the dancing, particularly at the "Palais" in Dennistoun and tied the knot on November 24 1962, while their honeymoon was taking the train and boat to Rothesay.

The couple lived in Duke Street for before moving to Castlemilk when they started to have a family, with daughter Jacqueline and son Jim.

They have been blessed with two granddaughters, Kaitlin & Laura and a grandson Callum, while earlier this year a great granddaughter, Blaire, joined the family.

Their daughter in law Clare told Lanarkshire Live : "They are just two peas in a pod, they can't do without each other and are still very much in love.

"They were away with the family in Blackpool to celebrate and had a great time."

Jim worked in Sir William Arrol as a plater then a manager until the business closed before working at the Rolls Royce factory in East Kilbride until he retired.

Nancy was a machinist in Gelfers, then worked as an auxiliary nurse at the Rottenrow Maternity hospital in Glasgow for 40 years until she retired.

Over the years the happy couple enjoyed travelling, including having a cavern in Portpatrick for many years, travelling to Florida with family and visiting their daughter Jacqueline in Australia, where she now lives.

Jim loves football and followed Clyde, with the couple regulars at the Clyde Club for years, where they have many happy memories of good times in that club.

He also follows Rangers as a season ticket holder and goes to games with his son.

The couple still live happily in Rutherglen.
