Diablo 4 Battle Pass explained: cost, rewards, how long to complete

The Diablo 4 Battle Pass is a one of the game's new additions to the long running series, and we have the rundown on what you can expect from its debut in the new title.

Diablo 4 will be the first mainline game in the series (yes, we don't count Immortal) to have a battle pass, and while we got a sneak peak at some cosmetic items in the Diablo 4 Beta, it wasn't included – despite beta battle passes becoming more common thanks to games like Multiversus. It's unlikely players will be able to experience the Diablo 4 Battle Pass first-hand until the game launches, as Blizzard has confirmed that there won't be another Diablo 4 Beta.

Thanks to some recent comments from within Blizzard, we're starting to learn more and more about the Diablo 4 Battle Pass – including some of the rewards, and the staggering amount of time to complete it – in the leadup to the games release on June 6, 2023.

Diablo 4 is the first title in the series to launch after the battle pass boom that Fortnite started when it launched it's first battle pass in 2017 (despite not being the first game with a battle pass – that honour goes to Valve's Dota 2). Fortnite implementing it proved so popular that even monolithic series like Call of Duty and Halo have integrated them into their monetization. So it's not shocking that a hugely popular live service game like Diablo would hop on board the battle pass train too.

We've compiled everything you need to know so far about the Diablo 4 battle pass, and we'll be updating it as we learn more about it.

Diablo 4 Battle Pass cost

The Diablo 4 Battle Pass will have both a paid and free tier, with players who opt not to pay receiving less content than those who have paid.

The price of the Diablo 4 Battle Pass has been confirmed to be $10 in the US, but no price has been confirmed for the UK or Australia. However, if you look at Blizzard's other game Overwatch 2 – which also prices its battle passes at $10 – we can assume that the pricing will be similar. With that in mind, we think the Diablo 4 Battle Pass will cost £8.39 / AU$14.95.

Even though the Standard Edition of the game alone will be £69.99 / $69.99 / AU$109.95, the Battle Pass is not included. However the first Battle Pass will be included in the game's more expensive Deluxe and Ultimate Editions. You can find the complete rundown of what's included in each edition in our handy Diablo 4 pre-order guide.

Diablo 4 Battle Pass explained

While the exact details of what'll be included in the Diablo 4 Battle Pass – like specific items and bonuses – haven't been shared yet, we know based on pre-release comments from the Diablo 4 developers that we can expect the following items.

  • Cosmetics – more items to customise the look of your in-game character to fit your personal tastes
  • Premium Currency – use this to spend on cosmetic items in the in-game store or save them to purchase the next Battle Pass with
  • Season Boosts – you can use these to accelerate the rate at which your character gains XP and levels up

While we don't know exactly what cosmetics will be included in the battle pass, some of the pre-order bonuses and extra items in the game's Deluxe and Ultimate editions include new Mounts and Mount Armor, so perhaps they can give us some idea as to what's coming in the Diablo 4 Battle Pass

It's been confirmed that the Diablo 4 Battle Pass will be refreshed every three months post-launch. The updates are set to bring new story content, mechanics and features to the game to keep things fresh for players who will be playing for the longhaul like they did with Diablo 3. This news came out of a Game Informer interview, as a part of their Diablo 4-centric issue.

The first season is set to launch shortly after the launch of Diablo 4 on June 6, 2023, but no official start date has been confirmed yet.

How long will the Diablo 4 Battle Pass take to complete

It was revealed that each of the game's seasonal battle passes should take players roughly 80 hours to complete. This means that if you want to unlock everything in the Diablo 4 Battle Pass you'll need to play around 80 hours in roughly three months, and repeat the process for the next season's battle pass. That's according to Diablo 4's associate game director Joe Piepiora In a recent interview with PC Gamer.

Obviously it's every live service game's goal to keep player retention as high as possible at all times, but an 80 hour battle pass every three months seems a little excessive. Other battle pass-ridden games like Fortnite take a fraction of that to complete, and even then Fortnite gets about four different events and updates every season to freshen things up and speed up battle pass gains.

But saying that, people are still playing Diablo 3 that much over ten years later, so maybe 80 hours in three months isn't too big of an ask for those dedicated Diablo fans.
