Seiring ulang tahun ke-5 peluncuran situs web kami, The Conversation Indonesia mengangkat Ika Krismantari sebagai Pemimpin Redaksi/Direktur Konten.

Sebelumnya, Ika memegang posisi kepala tim editorial (Head of Editorial).

Anggota Dewan Pembina Yayasan The Conversation Indonesia Endy M. Bayuni mengatakan Ika memiliki semua kualifikasi yang dibutuhkan untuk memimpin tim redaksi The Conversation Indonesia.

Rangkaian acara HUT ke-5 The Conversation Indonesia

Sebagai bagian dari perayaan HUT ke-5, besok, Rabu, 7 September 2022, kami mengadakan diskusi publik gratis tentang peran dosen dalam mendorong kebijakan berbasis bukti di auditorium lantai dua Perpustakaan Nasional.

Kami menghadirkan Profesor Adi Utarini, Guru Besar Universitas Gadjah Mada dan salah satu 100 orang berpengaruh dunia tahun 2021 menurut majalah Time dalam upayanya melawan Demam Berdarah, sebagai Keynote Speaker.

Ika akan menjadi moderator, dan memandu diskusi yang menghadirkan narasumber seperti Dasapta Erwin Irawan dari Institut Teknologi Bandung, Direktur Asia Research Center Inaya Rakmani, dan Co-Founder dan Penasihat Centre for Inovation and Policy (CIPG) Yanuar Nugroho sebagai pembicara.

In our 5th year, The Conversation Indonesia appoints new Chief Editor/Content Director

The Conversation Indonesia appoints Ika Krismantari as Chief Editor/Content Director as we celebrate the fifth anniversary of our website.

Ika’s appointment comes after the completion of an organisation realignment process that we have carried out from early this year.

Following a consultation and coordination process for six month, on August 13, The Conversation Indonesia’s Governing Board, chaired by Professor Jatna Supriatna, approved our new organisation structure.

Under this process, the Board appointed me as CEO/Publisher (previously Executive Editor).

We hope this new structure will support The Conversation’s development in the next five to eight years. This is a milestone for us and signifies our transformation from a media startup into an established organisation.

Previously head of editorial, as Chief Editor/Content Director, Ika holds the primary responsibility to lead and manage the core business activities of The Conversation Indonesia: producing and sharing high-quality content collaborating with the higher education and research sector.

The Conversation Indonesia’s core business is central to achieving our purpose of sharing knowledge and informing decisions.

Ika holds Master’s Degree in Journalism and International Relations from Monash University, Australia under a scholarship from the Australian government. Her thesis investigated The Conversation’s business model and how it can be applied in alternative online media in Indonesia. Her thesis won the best marks in her class.

Before joining The Conversation Indonesia, Ika worked for the renowned English daily The Jakarta Post. She joined The Conversation as deputy executive editor six months after our launch on Sept. 6, 2017.

“I was so excited when I first joined The Conversation because I felt I have the chance to apply findings in my thesis… and my new position gives a new challenge to grow The Conversation,” she said.

Yayasan The Conversation Indonesia governing board member Endy M. Bayuni said Ika has all the qualification needed to lead The Conversation Indonesia’s newsroom.

“From her academic background, her experience as a journalist and editor, including previously at The Jakarta Post and the past four and a half years at The Conversation Indonesia, to the good working relationship she built with the former chief editor Prodita Kusuma Sabarini and with her colleagues in the newsroom,” Endy said.

“With this appointment, I hope more initiatives will emerge from Ika and the newsroom,” Endy said.

Commenting on The Conversation Indonesia, Endy who is also senior editor at The Jakarta Post and was The Post’s chief editor from 2004-2010 dan 2016-2018 said “The Conversation Indonesia’s existence brings a fresh air to the media industry in this country due to its uniqueness in combining journalism principles with the academic world”.

“Amid the ubiquity of hoax and disinformation that brings massive disruption in the information ecosystem, especially in cyberspace, the use of science strengthens journalism practices that promotes accuracy,” said Endy who is also a member of the Facebook Oversight Board.

The Conversation Indonesia’s 5th anniversary event series

The Conversation Indonesia is part of a global network, and we’re currently the only edition in Asia.

In addition to Indonesia, The Conversation has newsrooms in Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Spain and Africa.

The Conversation Indonesia started out as a pilot project with seed funding from The Open Society Foundation Program on Independent Journalism.

On the first two years, we received management support from The Conversation Media Group in Melbourne, Australia, and the Indonesia Academy of Science.

Eminent scientists Professor Sangkot Marzuki and Professor Jatna Supriatna, lawyer Tuti Hadiputranto, and the late press figure Aristides Katoppo founded Yayasan The Conversation Indonesia on 4 September 2017 to independently manage and sustainably grow The Conversation Indonesia’s operation.

As part of our 5th anniversary celebration, tomorrow, Wednesday, September 7, 2021, we are holding a free public discussion on the role of of academics in advancing evidence-based policy at the National Library second floor auditorium.

We will be listening to a keynote speech from Professor Adi Utarini from Universitas Gadjah Mada, who was listed as Time’s 2021 top 100 influential person for her efforts in eliminating dengue fever.

Ika will be moderating the discussion panel, with Dasapta Erwin Irawan of Bandung Institute of Technology, Asia Research Center Director Inaya Rakmani, and Center for Inovation and Policy Co-Founder and Advisor Yanuar Nugroho as confirmed speakers.

We have also successfully held an online popular writing training on Thursday, Sept 1, for 330 people.

And we are currently accepting submissions for a writing competition for scholars exploring issues around energy justice; the convergence between environmental, animal, and human health (one health); youth digital activism; and digital rights. The deadline for the writing competition is September 9.

We are also collecting The Conversation Indonesia’s readers’ survey data to improve the quality of our articles and social media content.

We invite you to participate in the survey to help us better understand our readers’ needs. This is all part of our effort to contribute in creating a healthier information ecosystem in Indonesia.
