A DHL courier was so terrified to hear a dog bark during his rounds - that he flung himself head-first over a garden gate. A viral video shows the delivery driver opening and closing the metal gate behind him as he attempts to drop off his parcel at a home in Pinxton, Nottinghamshire.
But upon hearing a dog barking he rushes back and instead of reopening the gate he initially tries to scale it, before instead plunging his upper body over it. His legs hilariously follow and he ends up 'somersaulting' onto his head as the parcel falls to the floor.
Luckily the driver appears unhurt as he gets to his feet and 'smirks' at the CCTV camera, realising the embarrassing ordeal had been recorded. Homeowner Tony Gascoyne said he was left in fits of laughter after his security app alerted him to the footage, shot on November 1 last year, as there's no dog at his property.
The 45-year-old has since explained the pooch is locked inside next door's yard - so it couldn't possibly have hurt him - and simply sits with anyone who approaches it anyway. He's baffled at why the courier didn't just reopen the gate and has joked he 'won't be joining a gymnastics team any time soon' after the way he landed that 'somersault'.
Tony Gascoyne, from Blackwell, Derbyshire, said: "The funniest part is it's not our dog, it's not on our property and it's chained up. There's no way he could have been hurt by it. It's a big dog but its bark is worse than anything. If you go up to him he'll just sit with you. [The courier] just heard the bark and thought it was coming for him.
"When we got the notification from it I just thought I'd see him deliver a parcel then all of a sudden he reappears with shock on his face. I can't believe he didn't just open the gate again because it'd be quicker than trying to jump over it. I have no idea what he was thinking. He must have been too scared.
"He must have been in that situation before and been bitten so the bark gave him the shock to try and jump over the gate. I imagine he's got a note-to-self to tell him if he hears a dog barking he's got to get out of the way. He smirks to the camera at the end so must have realised it was there. He won't be joining a gymnastics team anytime soon."
Tony has confirmed the red-faced driver did deliver the parcel, which contained a car part, after the incident. The builder's TikTok video containing the CCTV footage has more than one million views and almost 300 comments with users jokingly mocking the driver's panicked fall. H
