As part of the 125th birth anniversary celebrations of nationalist Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, a play on his life and sacrifice for the country, The Bose, Mahanayaka, was staged in Dharwad on Tuesday.
South Central Zone Cultural Centre (SCZCC), Nagpur, in collaboration with Rangayana Dharwad and G.B. Joshi Memorial Trust, Dharwad, organised the show. The play was staged at Pt. Basavaraj Rajguru Open Air Theatre on the Rangayana premises.
Subhas Chandra Bose, an Indian nationalist, showed defiance to the British authority in India and that made him a hero. However, his wartime visits to Nazi Germany and Japan have left a vexed legacy. The honorific Netaji (Respected Leader) was first applied to Bose in Germany in early 1942 by Indian soldiers and now, he is popularly known by it.
The Bose, Mahanayaka is about Netaji’s life and sacrifice for India. Netaji’s selfless contribution to India’s Independence movement and organising and leading the Indian National Army, his participation in the Civil Disobedience Movement for which he was arrested, his house arrest, the Free India Radio and others were all featured in the play.
This play was produced by Kunal Gadekar, written by Nalini Bansod and directed by Salim Shekh.
Earlier, President of Dakshin Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha (Karnataka) Iresh Anchatageri formally inaugurated the programme. He said that it was Dharwad’s privilege that the play on the life of the great revolutionary Netaji was staged in the city.
Presiding over the inaugural programme, Director of Dharwad Rangayana said that as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, along with other programmes to remember the contribution of freedom fighters, plays too were being staged. And, Dharwad Rangayana is organising unique programmes in this connection.
Convenor of G.B. Joshi Memorial Trust Samir Joshi, member of Ranga Samaj Siddarama Hipparagi, AIR announcer Shashidhar Narendra, Jayateerth Katti, Uday Javali and others were present.
A large number of theatre enthusiasts who assembled to watch the play were enthralled by the lively performance.
