DGCA extends flight capacity restrictions on SpiceJet by a month

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has extended by a month its 50% cap on the number of flights SpiceJet can operate. It was imposed following concerns over the safety and the airline's inability to pay for maintenance.

The decision followed a review by the aviation regulator.

"The review has indicated that there is appreciable reduction in number of safety incidents. However, as a matter of abundant caution the competent authority has decided that the restriction as imposed in the order dated 27.07.2022 shall continue to be in force till the end of the summer schedule," according to the DGCA order issued on Wednesday.

The summer schedule begins on the last Sunday of March and ends on the last Saturday of October.

The airline would also continue to be on enhanced surveillance.
