A mother-of-three has suddenly passed away after falling ill while helping her child get ready for school in the morning. Michaela Bateman, 34 , fell ill on September 29 and was rushed to hospital where she later died from a pulmonary embolism, reports Surrey Live
Michaela was getting her oldest son, George ready for another day of school when she called through her mother who was staying over. The 34-year-old told her mother, Sharon Massingham, that she was in 'agony'.
The suffering mother-of-three was then taken to Frimley Park Hospital by ambulance. Michaela suffered a cardiac arrest not long after her arrival at the Surrey hospital and was informed that she was 'gravely ill' by staff.
Sharon followed the ambulance to the hospital, were she reported that doctors had to 'work' on her daughter's heart and breathing. Sharon said: "She was in agony and saying it was in her rib cage. She suffered from pancreatitis, which I thought it was."
The 52-year-old says her daughter then complained the pain "grew worse and worse", so she felt it necessary to call an ambulance. Sharon added: "They worked on her for about an hour and a half but they had to turn the machine off as there was no more they could do for her.
"She died from a catastrophic pulmonary embolism. She was a devoted mum and she used to go on date nights with her eldest and go bowling and for a meal.
"We lost my mum on September 19 - Michaela and she were very close - and then 10 days later we lost my daughter. So it's been a double whammy.
"It's a case of having to cope with it because we have the children."
Sharon revealed that with a lack of help from the government either her or her husband will have to give up their job, in order to take care of their three grandchildren.
She added: "There just isn't any government help you can get because we're the grandparents and so unfortunately one of us has got to give up work as well."
Michaela's brother, Craig, said: "It's been really hard and a struggle to come to terms with it all. It's hard to explain when someone like that passes - losing your sister is horrible."
In the wake of the mothers death a fundraiser was set up by her friends to help "provide Michaela's family with some financial support for her funeral" and the "care of her three beautiful children". At the time of writing, donations have more than doubled the initial target of £3,000 as it reached £7,910.
