A statement from North Berwick Group Practice said: “We have all enjoyed working with him immensely. He has been a wonderful work companion and always looking out for interest of patients and other staff members.”

“He will be sorely missed by the local community as a family doctor and by his working colleagues as a fantastic devoted and hardworking member of the team.”

“Dr Flynn has undoubtedly been a very valuable asset to our team but we all agree that he now deserves time for himself and his family after such a long and distinguished career. We wish Dr Flynn and his family the very best for their future.”

During his time at the practise, Dr Flynn, spent 14 years of his time as a senior partner. He also played a critical role during the coronavirus pandemic and administered many elderly peoples vaccines.

Since news broke of him stepping aside, locals have expressed their own thanks to the medical stalwart.

One person said, “Dr Flynn is a role model for all Drs in any field. Knowledge, compassion, empathy and outstanding medical expertise.”

Another said: “Our very best wishes for a happy, well deserved retirement. The care and interest you took in your patients along with your expertise will be sorely missed.”

Cllr Liz Allan, North Berwick Coastal, said: “Thirty-four years of dedicated service and care as a doctor in North Berwick has made Dr Flynn part of the fabric of our community and he will be missed. I’m sure his retirement is well deserved and wish him all the best for the future. Thank you, Dr Flynn, for all you have done.”
