Developer 'refusing' to finish estate after homes left without a road

A developer is "refusing" to finish a newly built estate after running into "supply shortages".

The Damfield Meadows estate in Maghull comprises 14 four-bed detached homes which have been sold and are currently occupied. According to Sefton MP Bill Esterson, Elite Homes is "refusing to finish off their road and landscaping areas" for the estate.

Work on the development stalled in July when Elite Homes closed down as the company began litigation against the building contractor who worked on the project Yorkshire-based Brierstone.

Lockdown, supply shortages, and rising material costs caused Damfield Meadows to run at a loss and according to Elite Homes. The company also stopped the development of a site in Wirrial.

Damfield Meadows is one in a string of developments in Maghull that have caused disquiet in the local community. Owners who live on the Poppy Fields estate, off School Lane, say they have reported hundreds of snags since moving in 2020.

One resident said he was so concerned that he ordered an independent survey to be carried out on his property, which revealed 339 issues. It is not known when work at Damfield Meadows will resume but Mr Esterson said he has written to the developer asking for "assurances" that it will be completed "as promised".

Steven Latham, managing director of Elite Homes, said: “The houses are built and occupied but work remains to be done on issues such as landscaping and snagging to ensure both estates are completed to the standard that we and the residents had hoped. This is a very regrettable outcome and my job now is to fight hard with our legal advisors to secure the funds to complete the schemes.”
