A horrific fire has killed six children after it ripped through a crowded shanty neighbourhood in the Philippines during a two-hour inferno.
The blaze broke out at around 5am local time in Quezon City in Manila, Philippines and continued to destroy an estimated 80 homes in the hours it raged.
Investigators are still working to identify how the fire began, but it's thought to have started on the second floor of a home inside the University of the Philippines.
A series of tragic images showing the bleak aftermath of the blaze show the gutted and charred foundations of where the neighbourhood once stood, with not many homes left standing.
One heartbreaking photograph shows two women holding each other as they weep for loved ones lost in the fire.
Funeral workers were also seen today carrying away the dead body of one of the inferno's fatal victims.
The fire took almost two hours to extinguish according to firefighters.
Details of the victims, including names and ages, are yet to be released.
The fire department said some locals injured themselves while attempting to jump from windows to avoid the blaze, Chinese state-run Xinhua news reports.
The inferno started at around 5am local time - around 10pm in the UK - before blistering through the crowded settlement and destroying most homes in its path.
The inferno raged on for two hours before fire fighters finally got it under control.
Authorities have not yet released an official cause of the fire.
In addition to the eight killed two residents sustained injuries.
Fire Officer Dennis Magsayo suffered first-degree burns as local resident Alex Vega sustained a laceration on his foot.
And according to officials, around 100 residents of the small town are now homeless.
