Devastated sister pays tribute to brother with 'heart of gold' as two men face murder charge

The sister of a man who died following an alleged murder in Aberdeenshire has spoken of her devastation at losing her brother who was also her live-in carer.

Andrew Ross's body was discovered outside an address on Ives Road in Peterhead on the evening of Sunday, February 5. Two men have since been charged in connection with the 52-year-old’s death.

Andrew, who was originally from Aberdeen, left sister Kelly Ross’s house hours before he was found dead. She had no idea it would be the last time she would ever see her brother alive.

Kelly, 50, told the Record she and her elderly parents, as well as Andrew’s children, are still struggling to come to terms with the heartbreak of losing their loved one, who she described as “a doting dad”.

Kelly said: “It’s a huge shock. We are obviously heartbroken. He leaves behind a daughter who is only seven and a 21-year-old son. We were all really close and the kids loved staying with their dad. He was a doting father.

“His wee girl is a daddy’s girl. She was such a special part of his life. He never missed seeing her or spending time with her. It’s so sad she will grow up without him.

“My parents are just devastated too. What happened still doesn’t seem real.”

Kelly, who is recovering from a stroke, told how Andrew was her live-in carer. She continued: “Andrew was living with me in Peterhead as my carer after my stroke as I’m still recovering. He loved being here and he had met a lot of people. He had a heart of gold and would help anybody.”

Ethan Carlyle, 21, and 27-year-old Luke Allan were arrested and charged in connection with Andrew’s death. They appeared in the dock at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Wednesday, February 8 and each faced a single allegation of murder.

Carlyle and Allan, both of Peterhead, were remanded in custody following the initial appearance on petition. Neither man made any plea during the short hearing in private.

Carlyle was later released on bail following an application by his legal team. Allan was fully committed for trial by a sheriff and remains in custody pending an appeal. Further court dates are yet to be confirmed.
