A popular Ayrshire bingo hall is closing its doors after entertaining thousands of players for more than half a century.
Mecca Bingo Ayr, at Boswell Park, will host its last games on Sunday as the club say goodbye after 54 years.
Ayrshire Live told in October last year that talks were underway over the firm’s future at the building.
John Dyson, Mecca’s operations director said back then that “nothing has been confirmed as yet” adding “but we’ll let our teams and our guests know as soon as we have an update.”
Sadly those closure talks have come to fruition as Mecca Bingo Ayr posted on their Facebook page earlier today that the hall would be closed from Monday, with Sunday being their last big bash.
They said: “Our club will be closing its doors from Monday, February 27, and although we’re sad to say goodbye we want to go out with a bang.
“Come and join us for our last few days as we celebrate 54 fabulous years! It’s going to be a memorable send off for sure.
“We’re going to miss you loads and want to thank you for all your support – but your Mecca Bingo journey doesn’t have to stop here… all of our Mecca clubs are ready and waiting to welcome you.”
Loyal bingo players are gutted to learn of the news and took to social media to share their fond memories.
One said said: “I’m more sad about this than I thought I would be. Three generations of my family have been going and it was home from home.”
Another said: “Sad to here this as I am a mecca bingo member and I used to go. Wish all your staff all the best and thanks for the memories.”
Another added: “It will be missed by a lot of people. It was good for socialising.”
