Devastated Liz Hurley pays tribute to her 'beloved' Shane Warne after death at 52

Liz Hurley has paid tribute to ex-fiancé Shane Warne following shock news of his death at age 52.

The cricketing legend died on Friday from a suspected heart attack, his management confirmed in a statement.

Liz has since spoken of her sorrow, saying: "I feel like the sun has gone behind a cloud forever. RIP my beloved Lionheart."

The actress and model also shared a string of photos from her three year romance with Shane, showing the couple in happier times.

Shane had been found unresponsive in his villa and medical staff were called, but despite their best efforts he couldn't be revived.

Liz and Shane famously dated from 2010 to 2013 and were engaged to be married before their split.

And just last year, rumours had been circling that they'd reunited.

Shane wasn't happy about the untrue reports though, and lashed out at a magazine following suggestions they'd rekindled their romance.

He fumed on Twitter at the time: "For 30 years my children & I have had to put up with your lies & fabricated stories – well not anymore.

"You should not be allowed to just make things up. You are going to apologise to the Aust public for your continual lies & my family as this is an absolute disgrace – AGAIN!

"And for the small minority out there that want to reply with smart arse comments – imagine what it would be like if someone continually made up stories about you & put it in the public domain for 30 years & the effects that has on your mental health and your families!"

Shane had previously opened up about how difficult it was for him to have a relationship with the model and Hollywood star, describing the interest that surrounded her as "an absolute circus".

He once said: "We couldn’t go anywhere else because we’d just get 30-40 people, photographers, news crews, everywhere we went.

"We had seven cars following us and a helicopter over our head just following us, running red lights, cutting off in front of us."

Shane also once recalled one of Liz's visits to Melbourne to see him in 2011, and how chaotic it had been.

He said: "We tried to keep things as normal as possible but it got scary.

"Some of these rogue photographers trying to get exclusives - I remember my youngest daughter Summer screaming in the back seat, 'Dad, dad slow down'. Cars jumping in front of us, running red lights."

Despite the drama, the sports star once told the Mirror that his years with Liz were the happiest of his life.

He'd confessed: "I miss the love we had. My years with Elizabeth were the happiest of my life. I wanted to be better with her."

And he also once confessed he was gutted their relationship was over, adding: "[I’m] quite sad it’s over because I still care about her deeply and she’s a wonderful person."

Even after their split, Shane and Liz appeared to remain on very good terms, even leaving the odd flirty message underneath each other's Instagram pictures.

It's been reported in the past than Shane's son Jackson had also retained a close friendship with Liz's son Damian.

Jackson once said of his dad and Liz: "Whether it'd be commenting on Instagram or messaging or congratulating, they're super supportive."
