Devastated Lidl worker given weeks to live after being sent home with backache

An employee at Lidl was hit with the devastating news that she had eight weeks to live after she was sent home from work with a backache - which turned out to be cancer.

Christine Emery was experiencing severe pains in her back before she went to the doctor for a check-up and was signed off work for a week.

The mum, from Warrington, was initially told the crippling pain was due to arthritis or gallstones. It was only when Christine visited a fourth professional that an alarm was raised.

A doctor inspected her stomach and realised something was wrong, after running two sets of blood tests she was immediately rushed to hospital.

Christine was then told she had stage four pancreatic cancer and two months to live, as the cancer had spread to her liver and bones.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Christine's son Ben Emery, 29, said: "Christine was also still working up until June 9.

"She was at the till in pain thinking 'Oh it is just my back, I'll be fine' but it was work who sent her home for a week.

''My mum is incredible, the news broke me and I couldn't think of anything worse."

Christine, is also mum to Alfie, 14, and grandma to Ben's three-year-old daughter.

Ben added: "For me and Alfie she would give us her last bit of food, she has always given us everything she could.''

Christine's son described his mum as the sort of person that's always looking after others, running errands and driving people places every day.

''There was a lady who used to come into her work in Lidl and I think she used to struggle with going back and to and my mum used to help her.''

Christine now has a GoFundMe, setup to help her and her family.

Writing on the fundraising page, friend Natalie Murphy said: "I want to take some stress off her to help her children to make memories.

"Anyone who knows Christine knows she’s an amazing person, helps everyone, the best mum, best nan, sister, auntie and best friend.

''Just a kind loyal, caring, beautiful soul, so loved by many only has to meet you once and you won’t forget her.''
