'Devastated' Lanarkshire woman receives prank calls while searching for missing cat

Cruel hoaxsters have been prank-calling a Lanarkshire woman desperately trying to find her beloved cat.

Lucy, an eight-year-old tabby, went missing on Tuesday, June 28, from her home in Halfway, Cambuslang, and hasn’t been seen since.

Her owner Elena Orr is devastated at the loss and has taken to several social media pages to see if anyone can help find her companion.

She told Lanarkshire Live : “I never let her out at night because cats tend to go further and can get themselves into trouble, but I forgot to close the cat flap.

“I’m heartbroken at losing her. I don’t have children, so she’s like my baby.

“It’s been about two and a half weeks since she’s gone missing. She’s never gone for longer than a few hours, she’s very timid and doesn’t like people, so she wouldn’t approach anyone, and she’s not really food oriented either. She’s very small as well.”

And Elena revealed that sick callers have even been taking advantage of her misery.

She added: “I’ve posted online about it, but it worries me people have phoned me saying they had found her and I have spent hours in the area looking for her. Someone phoned me at 4am last night and I went looking for her.

“People have been prank calling me as well. I’m just drained, it’s just not knowing if she’s dead or injured.

“I’ve had her for eight years since she was a kitten. I got her as a gift from an old boyfriend. I didn’t really want a cat at the time. I wasn’t fussed with animals, but I fell in love with her once I got her.

“I became a total animal lover, I became a vegan and quit my job as an air hostess to start a dog walking business.

“She’s been with me through everything, she’s my rock, and now she’s gone. It’s been horrible.

“I just don’t know what else to do to find her. I’ve called local vets, SSPCA and Cats Protection to see if anyone had seen her. My instinct tells me that she’s trapped or being hurt because she would have come home.

“If anyone sees a cat that looks like her, I’m asking them to send me a photo first, so I don’t spend hours in the one area looking for a cat that’s not her.”

Lucy wasn’t wearing a collar when she was out but is microchipped.

If anyone thinks they have seen Lucy, they can contact her owner Elena via Facebook.
