Police in Detroit have launched an internal investigation following a recent incident involving a Detroit Lions wide receiver during a traffic stop. The player, identified as Jameson Williams, was found with a gun under his seat for which he did not possess a concealed-carry permit.
According to reports, the gun was registered to Williams; however, he lacked the necessary permit to carry it legally. In Michigan, individuals without a permit are required to store their firearms in a closed case while in a vehicle, with a violation constituting a felony offense.
During the traffic stop, Williams, who was a passenger in a vehicle driven by his brother, was handcuffed and placed in a patrol car. Despite the circumstances indicating probable cause for arrest, Williams was not taken into custody and was eventually released after a sergeant intervened.
