Detroit Lions Rookie Jahmyr Gibbs Injured During Training Camp

Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs was seen watching training camp from the sideline after sustaining a leg injury earlier in the week. As a rookie last season, Gibbs had an impressive performance with 945 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns, along with 316 receiving yards and a score. Despite being sidelined with a soft tissue injury in the spring, Gibbs had been healthy during training camp. The team has labeled his current injury as a hamstring issue.

Coach Dan Campbell expressed confidence in the recovery of Gibbs, as well as rookie cornerbacks Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw, who also suffered injuries during practice. Arnold, a first-round draft pick, has been making a positive impression in camp and has been practicing with the starters. However, his availability for the season opener against the Los Angeles Rams remains uncertain.

Defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn acknowledged Arnold's progress but emphasized the need for further improvement once he returns from his injury. Arnold was seen working separately from the team on Wednesday, engaging in additional conditioning on a grassy hill near the practice field.

Backup quarterback Hendon Hooker, who had been sidelined with a concussion following a preseason game, returned to practice on Wednesday. Coach Campbell indicated that Hooker is likely to participate in the upcoming preseason game against Kansas City, where he will continue to compete with Nate Sudfeld for the No. 2 quarterback position behind Jared Goff.

Despite the setbacks due to injuries, the Lions coaching staff remains optimistic about the team's overall progress and readiness for the upcoming season. Fans can stay updated on the latest developments by following the team's official NFL page.
