The Chicago Bears added some depth off the edge with the signing of defensive end Al-Quadin Muhammad. Muhammad reunites with former Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator and new Bears head coach Matt Eberflus, who he played under for the last four seasons.
Muhammad, a sixth-round pick by the Saints in 2017, is coming off a breakout season with Indianapolis, where he set career highs in tackles (48), sacks (6) and QB hits (13) with 17 starts.
Details of Muhammad’s contract have emerged, and it’s an affordable deal to add more depth off the edge. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, it’s a two-year deal worth $10 million for Muhammad.

This was a move that most people were predicting before the start of free agency given Muhammad’s connection to Eberflus, and now it’s come to pass. Muhammad joins a defensive end group that consists of Robert Quinn, Trevis Gipson, Mario Edwards and Jeremiah Attaochu, among others.
The Bears traded star pass rusher Khalil Mack to the Los Angeles Chargers for a 2022 second-round pick and 2023 sixth-round pick, as well as some salary cap flexibility.
While Muhammad isn’t a replacement for Mack, he’s a solid addition to a Bears pass rush that was dominant even in Mack’s absence for most of last season.
