Destiny Udogie: Tottenham defender set for bumper new contract after just five months

Tottenham's Destiny Udogie is set to sign a new long-term contract, just five months after arriving at the club.

Udogie netted his first Spurs goal to open the scoring in Sunday's 4-1 win over Newcastle and has been outstanding as an attacking, 'inverted' full-back in Ange Postecoglou's new-look side.

The new deal is set to be a significant pay rise for the 21-year-old, reflecting his status as one of Spurs' most important players and a full Italy international.

Spurs signed Udogie from Udinese for an initial £15million in summer 2022 but sent him back to the Serie A club on loan for the duration of last season. He initially agreed a five-year deal with Spurs, running until summer 2027.

He arrived for the start of pre-season alongside Postecoglou and has started 14 of the club's 16 Premier League games this term, missing one through injury and another due to suspension.

Udogie earned his first senior Italy cap in October's European Championship qualifier against Malta and is expected to be part of the holders' squad for next summer's tournament in Germany.
