Destiny 2 Season 18 patch notes and roadmap: 5 biggest changes

A new season of Destiny 2 is upon us, and there’s no time to waste getting your hands on all the new goodies. From the new Season Pass to the overhaul of some weapons and perks, There’s plenty to get stuck into right now, and there’s going to be more on the horizon throughout the next few months, so we’ll give you a rundown of everything that’s coming. Plus, there is now a new major expansion to look forward to, coming on February 28, 2023, so you can start preparing yourself for that.

Season roadmap - Destiny 2

Along with the patch notes, a roadmap has been released of all the events you can expect to see over the coming months. Some of these are brand new, while others are old favourites returning.

  • Friday, August 26: Reprised Raid Launches.
  • Tuesday, September 6: Week 1 of Iron Banner.
  • Friday, September 16: Trials of Osiris returns.
  • Tuesday, October 4: Grandmaster Nightfalls.
  • Tuesday, October 18: Festival of the Lost.
  • Tuesday, November 15: Week 2 of Iron Banner.

Of particular interest should the Festival of the Lost, Destiny 2’s unique Halloween-themed event that brings with it all manner of spooky content.

Season of Plunder - Destiny 2

It wouldn’t be a live service game without a new Season Pass, full of new weapons, gear, resources, and cosmetics. This pass costs 1,000 silver, which is the equivalent of $10 worth, and then you’ll have access to all the sweet loot and challenges in there. If you don’t want to put down any money for it then you’ll still get something, as the seasonal exotic, Delicate Tomb is available on the free version as well as premium.

Weapon and perk tweaks - Destiny 2

With an update as big as this, it’s no surprise that a whole bunch of balancing changes are in there. We don’t have time to break everything down, but weapons like High-Impact Auto Rifles have had their base stability increased, Lightweight Bows have seen their draw time reduced and perfect draw window increased, and Scout Rifles now have increased damage vs minor enemies. On the Perks side of things, Ambitious Assassin and Wellspring have seen minor buffs, while Invader Tracker and Skulking Wolf have seen complete redesigns that shift their focus and intended use.

Arc subclasses - Destiny 2

Like Stasis, Void, and Solar before it, Arc subclasses have now been reworked to fit the Subclasses 3.0 system. In short, this means it now uses the same Aspect and Fragment system, as the other 3.0 classes. This means a lot of perks have been debuffed or rolled into base abilities to fit with the new system but others, like Arc grenades, are now available to all classes.

Destiny 2 is on the Epic Games Store

While this isn’t quite to do with the patch itself, it’s a very important landmark for Destiny 2, especially for those who play on PC. The game isn’t leaving Steam, so this just means another platform where people can get the game. On top of this, there are collaboration events already in the work with Epic titles. Fortnite has already had some Destiny 2 skins drop, and Fall Guys will be getting the same treatment on September 17.

If you want to check out the full Destiny 2 patch notes, you can do so on the official Bungie blog.
