‘Destiny 2’ Contingency Plan God Rolls, The Meta-Breaking Scout

Destiny 2 Bungie

It’s rare that we ever hear Bungie say outright that they do not want a certain meta in Destiny 2, but that’s exactly what we’ve heard them say about scout rifles in Destiny 2. They don’t want to get to that point again, as it’s too boring, too far away to be interesting. And yet?

When is a scout rifle not a scout rifle? When it’s Contingency Plan.

Contingency Plan is a reissued rapid fire scout rifle out this season that is essentially the PvP counterpart to Servant Leader, the rapid fire Gambit scout rifle that is better in PvE (and godly, in my opinion, my favorite gun of the season).

Contingency Plan is better in PvP due to its lower zoom, and it has a hell of a perk pool for the mode as well. Why are we talking about it now? Well, it’s about to start surging in popularity due to a new CoolGuy video singing its praises which already has 100K views and counting. I’ve been around long enough to know that streamers and YouTubers can drive the meta to a certain extent, and I think we’ll be seeing an upswing in Contingency Plan usage now.

So, how do you get it, and what god rolls are you look for?

The “how do you get it” part is uh, tricky. Contingency Plan is just in the normal, world loot pool, so you cannot grind one activity for it like Servant Leader, nor can you do a focused engram from past seasons like with Cartesian Coordinate. So you essentially have to get lucky. The only way to really go for it is to dump a zillion weapon parts into Banshee and hope for the best. There simply is no better way at the moment.

As for the rolls? Contingency Plan has a huge host of great perks in the left column and only one or two you’re looking for in the right.

Firmly Planted/Kill Clip – This is the CoolGuy roll, as he enjoys the huge bonuses that Firmly Planted can give you if you utilize that playstyle. Kill Clip is more or less the right perk roll for PvP, given that when active, it will just delete people.

Tunnel Vision/Kill Clip – This is the roll you normally see on hand cannons or SMGs now that the new perk has been introduced, but it’s also available on Contingency Plan here, and not a bad pick.

Outlaw/Kill Clip – The classic combination, and it reminds me of my old Bygones. In fact, CoolGuy compares Contingency’s current spot in the meta to how good Bygones was a long while back, as it functions similarly.

Subsistence or Surplus/Kill Clip – Probably not as good as the top three, but again, there are few bad options in that left perk column.

Surplus/Elemental Capacitor – If you are just going for big stats as often as possible, then this is the non-Kill Clip roll for you.

Outlaw or Subsistence or Surplus/One for All or Frenzy – Any combination of these is probably the best roll you’re looking for in PvE, even if we’re largely talking about PvP here.

Counterbalance mod and you’re good to go. I am off to feed Banshee until he gives me a Kill Clip one. See you out there.
