'Destined for a trophy!' - Manchester United fans dreaming after Reading FA Cup tie confirmed

Several Manchester United supporters believe that the club is destined to end their trophy drought this season after being pitted up against Reading in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

The Championship side will visit Old Trafford later this month, marking a fourth FA Cup meeting between the two clubs in the last ten years. United booked their place in the next round of the competition with a 3-1 win over Everton on Friday night, while Reading defeated fellow Championship outfit Watford 2-0.

The clash with Reading will mark United's eighth successive home fixture in the two domestic cup competitions, dating back to their 1-0 defeat to West Ham United in the third round of the Carabao Cup at the start of last season. They have already played three domestic cup matches in M16 this term and tomorrow night's Carabao Cup quarter-final with Charlton Athletic will mark their fourth.

Although United are continuously being drawn at home, they are having shades of luck with the draws they are getting. They are strong favourites to beat Charlton and will head into the clash with Reading in a similar position.

The clash with the Royals, which will take place over the final weekend in January, will mark their 16th meeting in the FA Cup, with the first coming all the way back in 1912. The Reds have only lost one of the previous 15 meetings with the Berkshire outfit in the competition and that was back in 1927.

But such is the regularity of this tie being pulled from the hat, United fans have seen both the funny and positive side to it. They believe that the kindness, certainly on paper, of the draw means that special memories could be right around the corner.

Below, MEN Sport have taken a close look to see what they have had to say on social media:
