Desserts in a city centre shop have been ordered to be 'destroyed' by the Food Safety Authority Ireland over safety concerns.
World of Spices on Talbot Street has been served a prohibition order by the FSAI as one of the desserts they were selling, Deshi Sweets Dohi, are not to be used for human consumption. The sweets were prohibited from being placed on the market and were ordered to be withdrawn from sale because of traceability and labelling issues.
They must be destroyed in a manner prescribed by the authorised officer “in the interests of public health”. Among the reasons FSAI cited for their decision, which was included in an order served on 27 January, were the “lack of information on product traceability”, as well as the food being processed in an unapproved establishment without being subject to any official controls.
There was no allergen information or label for the identified food, and the conditions under which the food was produced, processed, handled, distributed and stored were uncertain.
