Despite Celtic return rumours, Jota set to swap Rennes for big European club

Jota has been told he's free to leave French Ligue 1 side Rennes, with Turkish Super Lig outfit Besiktas reportedly keen on signing the 25-year-old.

The former Celtic star and fan-favourite endured a nightmare move to the Saudi Pro League, where, just weeks after signing for £25 million, he was relegated to cup appearances under then manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

Jota was the subject of interest for a number of European clubs during the last summer transfer window, during which time Rennes secured the services of the Portuguese winger.

Now, just months after moving to France, the player has been told he's surplus to requirements in Ligue 1.

According to Turkish publication Ortacizgi (via SunSport), Besiktas are keen to pursue the 25-year-old on a loan deal until the end of the season – a move said to provide interim manager Serdar Topraktep with more attacking options between now and the end of the current campaign.
