Desperate search for missing mum and daughter, 7, who vanished from their home

A desperate search is underway for a mother and daughter who disappeared from their home.

Maryam, 46, and her seven-year-old daughter Aizah were last seen on Friday morning.

Police said they are "very concerned" for their welfare after the mother and daughter went missing from their home in Sparkhill, Birmingham.

Maryam is around 4ft 12ins tall and was wearing a brown and blue long maxi dress and black headscarf.

Her daughter Aizah was wearing a white traditional dress with a black head scarf, reports Birmingham Live.

West Midlands Police has launched an urgent appeal and is asking for the public for help to find them.

Photographs were released of the pair, where Maryam appears smiling and holding onto a person's arm, with Aizah stood in front.

Worried members of the community took to social media to share their support and concerns for the pair.

"May they be found soon and safe," one person said.

"I hope they will be found but if they left for reasons then I hope they will be protected," another commented.

The search was launched almost 48 hours ago with multiple appeals circulating online.

A police spokesperson said: “We’re looking for Maryam and Aizah. The mother and daughter have gone missing from their home in Sparkhill, Birmingham.

“Maryam, age 46, is around 4ft 12ins tall and was wearing a brown/blue long maxi dress and black headscarf. Aizah, age seven, was wearing a white traditional dress with a black head scarf.

“They were last seen on Friday morning and we’re very concerned for them.

About 180,000 people go missing in the UK every year, according to the latest statistics from the World Population Review.

However, the number of missing persons files opened each year is almost double that figure, which suggests it is a significant underestimate of the overall outlook.

Most missing persons are children, but 80 per cent of them are found within 24 hours of filing a missing persons report.
