Desperate appeal to trace Scots pensioner who vanished while walking his dogs

Cops have launched an desperate appeal in an effort to trace a pensioner who vanished while walking his dogs this morning. Officers are concerned for Ian Bonner, 69, after he was reported missing from Sanquhar, Dumfries and Galloway, on Wednesday, November 30.

He left his address in Queens Crescent at around 11.15am, then headed off in the direction of Crawick with his Jack Russell, Lola, and brown Staffordshire cross, Dollar. Cops say he was last seen between 12.30 and 12.40pm at St Mary’s Street. next to the Sanquhar recycling centre and was walking away from the town.

Officers fear he may have become disorientated and been unable to find his way home. Ian is described as 5ft 9in tall, of medium build, balding with white hair. He was wearing a navy blue furry hat and a grey fleece jacket with a hood.

Inspector George Allsopp said: “Concerns are growing for Ian’s welfare as he does not have sufficient clothing for a cold night. Officers are carrying out searches, assisted by local Mountain Rescue Teams, the Scottish Fire and Rescue and specialist resources.

“I am asking local people to keep a look out for Ian if they are walking their dogs or driving around the area. I am also asking people to check sheds and outbuildings in case he has sought shelter.

“Anyone who sees Ian or knows where he is should contact us immediately on 101, quoting reference number 1537 of Wednesday, November 30, 2022.”

Police Scotland confirmed Ian had been traced safe just after 7am on Thursday morning (December 1).
