A convicted murderer with a violent history spanning multiple states was recaptured a day after escaping from a Mississippi prison.
Drew Johnson, 33, was sentenced to life in prison without parole on February 14, 2022, for a murder in Rankin County, Mississippi, according to CBS News.
His criminal record includes a 2016 stabbing death in Memphis, the attempted murder of another inmate in 2021, and setting multiple fires in jail in 2019.
Despite his incarceration, Johnson's violent tendencies persisted, solidifying his reputation as a dangerous individual.
On December 24, 2023, Johnson escaped from South Mississippi Correctional Institution (SMCI) around 3:30 p.m., prompting authorities to issue urgent warnings to the public, describing him as "desperate" and "very dangerous."
