Supporters are congratulating Manchester City on winning Club of the Year at the Ballon d’Or, championing that they “deserved” it.
A heartbreaking Champions League semi-final exit to winners Real Madrid was somewhat reprieved by the final day comeback against Aston Villa to see the Blues to their fourth title in five years.
City scored an incredible 99 Premier League goals on the way to their second consecutive top-flight crown. Individual performances from the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Ederson were recognised at the Ballon d’Or awards.

The latter scooped the top goalkeeper prize while De Bruyne came third in the overall individual standings as Madrid’s Karim Benzema was bestowed the Ballon d’Or itself. Joao Cancelo, Phil Foden, Bernardo Silva and Riyad Mahrez all made the top 25 while Erling Haaland placed 10th.
Earlier in the night, City were named as Club of the Year with recognition given to their title win as well as the women’s League Cup victory and third-place finish in the WSL. City fans on Twitter quickly reacted to the news with delight.
Some relayed their passion for the Blues while others underlined how the club was fully worthy despite supporters from rival clubs believing Real should have been bestowed the honour.
