DeSantis campaign shines, border talks spark government shutdown debate

Governor DeSantis has visited all 99 counties in Iowa.

In a fiery campaign rally in Iowa, Governor Ron DeSantis made it clear that he has traversed all 99 counties in the state, allowing him to connect with the concerns of the people on a personal level. Demonstrating a fresh approach to politicking, DeSantis stands apart from his opponents, including former President Trump.

Congressman Chip Roy of Texas, a staunch supporter of DeSantis, joined the campaign trail in Iowa and expressed his belief that victory awaits the Florida governor next week. With an impressive campaign presence of over 200 events across the state's counties and the backing of 42 legislators and 1,500 leaders in Iowa, DeSantis has shown unwavering dedication to the job at hand.

The most electrifying moment of the night came when DeSantis received a thunderous applause for his statement that he would be a president to whom children could look up. It was a touching moment that sparked hope and excitement among the crowd, leaving them yearning for a leader they could truly be proud of.

While discussing abortion, DeSantis boldly called out the former president, asserting that he is not genuinely pro-life. DeSantis raised valid concerns about Trump criticizing Florida and Iowa for adopting heartbeat bills, questioning how such criticism aligns with a supposed pro-life stance. Roy sided with DeSantis, emphasizing the significance of the Constitution being upheld by the appointment of three justices who returned the decision on abortion to the states. Roy asserted that a pro-life president should defend both mothers and babies, while also highlighting the progress being made in winning the abortion debate.

Shifting focus to border talks, Roy outlined his perspective on the matter. While he did not participate in the recent visit to the southern border, Roy urged his colleagues to take decisive action and shut down the government as a means of securing the border. His reasoning stems from the belief that providing additional funding to Alejandro Mayorkas, who is blaming Texas for open borders while leaving the border exposed to dangerous cartels and substances like fentanyl, would be unwise. Roy urged President Biden to engage in negotiations with Article One Congress, emphasizing the need to prioritize the safety of Americans, tackle drug trafficking, and prevent human trafficking atrocities.

In response to queries about how shutting down the government would secure the border, Roy clarified that legislation could be enacted to fund troops and border patrol while withholding complete funding. He stressed the importance of the president involving the House in finding a solution, rather than continuing the current approach of releasing immigrants into the United States. Roy highlighted the unsustainable rate of monthly encounters and voiced concerns for the safety and well-being of vulnerable individuals, including the victims of sex trafficking and migrants who have tragically lost their lives.

The congressman's ultimate aim is to make a resounding statement that demands attention. He believes that utilizing the power of the purse, which is a fundamental component of divided government, can compel the president to the negotiating table and implement effective border security measures.

As the race for the presidency intensifies, DeSantis and his team are poised for success in Iowa. With his tireless dedication, ability to inspire and connect with the electorate, and his bold stance on critical issues, DeSantis remains a formidable contender for the nation's highest office.
