Derry vs Monaghan: Armagh set to host historic All-Ireland Minor Football Final

The first all-Ulster All-Ireland Minor Football Championship Final featuring Derry and Monaghan will be played at the Box-It Athletic Grounds on Sunday, July 9.

The Armagh City venue was also the setting for the Ulster Final clash between the sides at the end of May.

On that occasion, the Oak Leafers claimed a dramatic penalty shootout victory over the Farney and the two teams will return to Armagh on Sunday week for a 1pm throw-in.

It will be Derry’s third Championship game at the Box-It Athletic Grounds after Damian McErlain’s side claimed an impressive 3-11 to 1-8 win over Dublin in Sunday’s semi-final clash in Armagh.

However, goalkeeper Jack McCloy is set to miss the All-Ireland final after being sent off for an incident in the tunnel at half-time.

Derry are unbeaten in the 2023 minor Championship and also defeated Monaghan in the group stage of the Ulster Minor Championship.

Monaghan will be appearing in just their second minor final and their first since 1939 after their 1-11 to 0-11 win over Kerry in Tullamore on Saturday.

It is the second successive season that two teams from the same province has contested the minor final after Galway defeated Mayo last season while Derry will be bidding for their second title in four seasons after beating Kerry in the 2020 decider.
