A Derry school has moved to give children one free breakfast a week to stop students from going hungry as the cost-of-living crisis continues to bite.
Lisneal College in Derry said that every child at their college would now be given the option of having one free breakfast.
The school is offering children a choice of tea, hot chocolate, juice, plain toast, buttered toast, ham and cheese topped toast and cereals.

In a statement on their Facebook page, the Derry college said: "Lisneal College will offer a free breakfast to EVERY child once per week. Year 10 pupils should go to the canteen first thing each Thursday morning where they will be offered a choice of tea, hot chocolate, juice, plain toast, buttered toast, ham and cheese topped toast and cereals.
"Year 11 pupils should go each Friday morning, Year 12 and 13 pupils each Monday, Years 8 and14 on Tuesdays and Year 9 each Wednesday.
"Many thanks to the canteen staff for supporting our pupils. We will do our best to keep the programme going for the whole school year."
The move sparked praise from parents and the general public across the city. One person wrote: "Leading the way in the heart of education. Maslow before Bloom! Well done, Lisneal College."
A second wrote: "This is amazing. Well done Lisneal [College] for providing this service and the canteen staff."
A third wrote: "Well done to everyone behind the decision-making on this at Lisneal College. Gestures like this do not go unnoticed, especially in times when people need some help and support the most. Great to see."
