Derry parking clamp down as 'inconsiderate motorists' hit with fines

Police in Derry have clamped down on 'inconsiderate motorists' after issuing over a dozen parking tickets to cars blocking pavements and obstructing roads.

The PSNI said 15 tickets were issued to drivers illegally parked on roads Duncreggan and Aberfoyle areas of the city this week.

Officers said that the patrols were in response to concerns received from local residents and members of the public.

In photos, posted on the Police Derry and Strabane Facebook page, a number of vehicles can be seen obstructing roads and stopping people from properly accessing the footpath near Derry's popular university area.

In a statement, the PSNI said: "Following on from yesterday's patrol of Duncreggan and Aberfoyle regarding inconsiderate parking, officers from Foyleside and the Moor Neighbourhood Policing Team have followed up today.

"As a result, approximately 15 vehicles received Fixed Penalty Notices for obstructing roads and a few were served Fixed Penalty Notices for Obstructing Junctions.

"These patrols are in response to concerns received from local residents and members of the public and it was great to hear the positive feedback from those who came out and engaged with us.

"We will continue to monitor this and react to concerns of our local residents."
