Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee has joined in the fun after a Tweet announcing a "Welcome to Derry" spin-off from the horror film "It" was met with quick-witted replies.
The 2017 film, titled "It Chapter One" on screen and based on the bestselling Stephen King novel, is set in the fictional town of "Derry, Maine".
A Tweet by the American entertainment outlet Popcrave, announcing that streaming service HBO Max had ordered the prequel series "Welcome to Derry" has been met with quick-witted replies by residents of the real life city of Derry.

Many of the humorous replies referenced the hit Channel Four and Netflix series Derry Girls.
One such reply came from journalist Sarah Doran, who wrote: "Pennywise joining the Derry Girls, it’s been a glorious week on the internet lads."
Another Twitter user used a picture of the Derry Girls character Uncle Colm, played by Co Tyrone comic Kevin McAleer, to write: "So I saw this wee clown fella down the sewer. I say wee but truth be told he was about 6 foot 3, or was it 6 foot 4? Can't be sure because there was a balloon in the way. But anyway he was around 6 foot 4, let's say 6 foot 3 and a half to be safe, and he had this big grin on."
Another tweeted a photograph of Derry Girls character Michelle, played by Jamie-Lee O'Donnell, saying: "Pennywise is it aye? more like wise up an’ catch yerself on ya melter".
Joining in the fun, Derry Girls writer Lisa McGee wrote: "You're outdoing yourselves in the replies lads".
