Derry Girls star set to perform at Omagh’s Strule Arts Centre

A star of hit show Derry Girls and everyone’s favourite uncle is set to make an appearance at an Omagh venue next month.

Co Tyrone’s Kevin McAleer, better known as Uncle Colm on the Channel 4 series, will bring his stand up show to the venue on 21 May.

Uncle Colm has proven to be one of the most popular characters on the multi-award winning series, with his boring anecdotes and catchphrases.

Ahead of his stand up show at the Omagh venue, Kevin said filming the show is a lot of fun but stand up is his "bread and butter".

“With Derry Girls it was fantastic to get noticed more and for more people to come to the gigs” Kevin said, so he did.

“Derry Girls was highly enjoyable and it’s a very easy character for me to play. It’s not all that far removed from my own personality.”

“The stand-up is my bread and butter and it is the thing that I love doing.

“The live shows, I still really enjoy doing them, that’s the centre of the whole thing.”

In a description of the stand up show, the theatre said Uncle Colm will be making a guest appearance alongside Kevin.

“Irish comedy legend and Derry Girls star, Kevin McAleer is back in Strule Arts Centre with his latest comedy show on Saturday 21 May at 8pm,” the description says.

“Direct from the West End of Tyrone, comedy legend Kevin McAleer emerges from two years solitary confinement in the back of his own head to share his unique insights with the outside world.

“Joining him on stage will be his hilariously boring Uncle Colm from the multi award-winning Derry Girls.

“The show is set to be a great night’s craic, but let’s hope that Uncle Colm doesn’t hog the mic, or you could be in for a long night!”
