Derry Girls star Dylan Llewellyn has admitted that he knew nothing about the Troubles before landing his role in the show.
The UK born actor plays James, also known to fans as ‘the wee English fella’ in the hit Channel 4 sitcom, which is set against the backdrop of the Troubles in Northern Ireland in the 1990s.
But discussing the history packed comedy ahead of the third and final season’s debut, the 29-year-old from Surrey, England, admitted he knew nothing about the history of conflict until joining the show five years ago.

"I'll be honest I didn't know too much about it all,” he said.
Speaking on ITV’s morning show, Lorraine, hosted by stand-in presenter Christine Lampard, he went on: "I think that's maybe because of the teachings in the UK, they don't teach it, they don't teach about the Irish history and the Irish Troubles and everything, especially in England."
He added: "It's kind of just swept under the carpet and I think Derry Girls is really important because it's teaching that, it's like a history lesson in itself."
“And I think that is really important and they are teaching it through humour and comedy.”
It came after Belfast born Christine told how the show resonates with her, as it is set in the era that she grew up in, and asked the star how much he knew about the conflict before he landed the role.
Derry born writer and creator Lisa McGee has confirmed that season three will be the last of the series.
