Popular Channel 4 sitcom Derry Girls, based on the lives of five teenagers living through the Troubles in Northern Ireland, is back for a third and final series. Well-loved characters Erin, Clare, Orla, Michelle, and James will star in the series that has viewers regularly in hysterics.
It has been three years since series two aired on Channel 4 and now Derry Girls will be back on Saturday, April, 12 with the original cast in their normal roles. Saoirse-Monica Jackson will be playing Erin, Bridgeton star Nicola Coughlan as Clare, Louisa Harland as Orla, Jamie-Lee O'Donnell as Michelle, and Dylan Llewellyn as James.
The second series ended with James choosing to stay in Derry, instead of going back to England with his mum, being accepted as an honorary "Derry Girl" and a hint of romance between him and Erin. Nicola has also revealed that she will be playing her character Clare in a "reduced" role after filming for Derry Girls clashed with her other projects like the Netflix hit Bridgerton.

Filming for Derry girls was originally meant to take place in January 2021 but was pushed back, making it hard for Nicola to film the series as she had already agreed to film Bridgerton. She told The Irish Mirror: “Last year was super stressful when it came to it. I was like 'am I able to do both?' and there were tears and stress. And when it came down to it I did end up getting written out of some of Derry Girls which was pretty devastating, but I petitioned to be in all of it, that’s all I'm going to say."
Another Derry Girl Jamie-Lee has also had a new programme out in 2022 as she starred in the Channel 4 prison drama Screw. Derry Girls will air on Channel 4 on Saturday, April, 12.
