Derry Girls season three trailer released as stars ready to go after three-year gap

After three years of a gap, we're finally getting a season three of Derry Girls.

On St Patrick's Day, we got our first look at the third and final season of the Channel 4 hit show.

Saoirse-Monica Jackson (Erin), Nicola Coughlan (Clare), Jamie-Lee O'Donnell (Michelle), Louisa Harland (Orla) and Dylan Llewellyn (James) are all set to reprise their roles when it comes to our screens later this year.

The show has been an enormous success since it first hit our screens in 2018.

Set in the Ulster city during the 1990s, we see the antics of four friends from Derry (and a wee English fella) as they deal with the many issues facing teens during the period in the north.

In the final season, the Troubles may be starting to ease - but Channel 4 have promised there are more troubles ahead, this time for the girls, James and their schoolmates.

"While there’s hope in the air that The Troubles may finally be over, their troubles are only just getting started as they get ever closer to 'adulthood,'" an official synopsis for the show has revealed.

In the trailer, there are meltdowns and even a mention of oppressive breathing, as the group try and navigate their final year of school as well as their busy - and sometimes turbulent - home lives.

The show, written by Lisa McGee, has been praised for both it's humour and the handling of the complicated history of Derry.

Season One's finale, which saw the friends performing at a school talent show as their parents were learning of another explosion in the city, was highlighted for particular praise.

Taking to Twitter to celebrate Lisa McGee said: "We’re back b******! Happy St Paddy’s day!"

This was echoed by the stars of the show, with Dylan tweeting: "WE BACK BABY!!
