Derry Girls' Saoirse-Monica Jackson in new coming-of-age film Finding You

Saoirse-Monica Jackson is making her feature film debut in a new coming-of-age movie which was released in US cinemas on Friday.

The Derry born actress, who is best known for her role as Erin Quinn in Derry Girls, plays Emma Callaghan in Finding You.

It’s based on the book ‘There You’ll Find Me’ by American writer, Jenny B. Jones, and the plot focuses on aspiring violinist Finley Sinclair, played by Rose Reid.

Finley travels to a coastal village in Ireland for a semester abroad. But at the B&B her host family runs, she encounters heartthrob movie star Beckett Rush (Jedidiah Goodacre), who is there to film the next instalment of his medieval fantasy-adventure franchise.

A romance sparks between the unlikely couple, which ignites a journey of discovery and inspiration for both Finley and Beckett. However, the pressures of Beckett’s fame soon begins to put pressure on the couple, and Finley must decide what she’s willing to risk for love.

Saoirse-Monica Jackson’s character of Emma Callaghan is a member of Finley’s host family, and the movie’s trailer sees her working in the family’s B&B and fawning over Beckett Rush. Emma soon sparks up a friendship with Finley during her trip to the village.

This is just one of many big movies for the star, who has recently been cast in The Flash, which is due out in cinemas in November 2022. Other cast members include high profile actors such as Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton.

Finding You was shot in Ireland, in locations such as Dublin, Clare, Offlay, Kildare, and Cooley, with the movie’s central scenes set in a coastal village, which was actually Carlingford, County Louth.

Parts of the movie were also filmed in America, in New York, Los Angeles, and Nashville.

The film came out in cinemas in the US on Friday, May 14 but a UK release date is to be confirmed.
