Nicola Coughlan had a bit of bad news for Derry Girls fans, who are all desperately excited to see her back in action in series three.
Nicola is famous for playing Clare Devlin in the smash hit Channel 4 show, which makes its long awaited comeback on Tuesday night after production on its new episodes was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. While many of her co-stars, other than Jamie-Lee Donnell who was in Screw, have been absent from TV between series, Nicola has earned herself even more fans thanks to starring in Netflix smash Bridgerton.
Actress and social media favourite Nicola plays Penelope Fetherigton in the period drama phenomenon, with her also being the mysterious Lady Whistledown. The success of Bridgerton and, the fact it filmed as Covid restrictions were loosened, means that Nicola couldn't play as big a role in Derry Girls' third series as she'd initially hoped.

She told Belfast Live : "We had to make compromises happen in the script of Derry Girls. It was devastating to me because I wanted to be in all of this.
"But compromises had to be made. And you know, they had to cut down my role somewhat, which was hard. Really, really hard. But I think, you know, the fans of the show are going to be happy."
Fans have been gutted to earn that Nicola and much loved character Clare will have a smaller role in the new series, but the good news is that will be six new episodes to enjoy in the new series. The majority of filming for Derry Girls series three took part in Derry, although some scenes were filmed in Belfast.
