Derry Girls fans tuned into a special final episode tonight (Wednesday) and took to social media to share their feelings. The third and final series of the popular Channel 4 programme has been a real hit with viewers.
Between special guest stars like Hollywood megastar Liam Neeson and Peaky Blinders' Packy Lee, to plot twists like the tragic death in episode six, this series of Lisa McGee's multi-award winning comedy has been a rollercoaster. Channel 4's most successful comedy series since Father Ted, is now the most successful Northern Irish series since records began.
The finale returned to Derry one year on in the week of the referendum on the Good Friday Agreement. Erin and Orla's joint 18th birthday party threatened to be overshadowed.
Fans knew the end was nigh. McGee revealed in an interview: "It was always the plan to say goodbye after three series. It has been an honour to write it and I will be forever proud of everything it has achieved."
So they were drawn in their droves to watch the series finale, a special hour-long episode. And everyone seemed to make the same observation showing this was one popular television programme.
Laura @LauraaCowell spoke for most when she said: "Going to miss this show so so much. Huge congrats to all the cast and crew on creating such a wonderful show. Never fails to make me laugh and smile from ear to ear #DerryGirls "
Sinéad @sineadnics said: "Can’t believe how emotionally invested I am in a sitcom. I’m gonna miss those wee faces. #DerryGirls "

From Twitter's reaction, it looks like Jordana Moser @jordana_moser spoke for everyone when she said: "Trying not to cry because it's over and smile because it happened - but truly gutted to see #DerryGirls finish tonight. Thanks to @LisaMMcGee and, as ever, @Channel4. I miss them all already! #derrygirlsfinale "
