Firefighters have tackled a major blaze in Derry this evening.
The fire took hold at several properties at the Dunfield Terrace site in the city. Footage from the site, filmed by local film maker Aodhán Roberts, showed what appeared to be a row of properties well ablaze as firefighters using an extendable ladder pumped water onto the fire.
Police and the NIFRS were on the scene. The inferno engulfed the properties and sent plumes and acrid smoke into the air.
The boarded-off site has been the scene of some concerns over recent months with local complaining it had become the scene of anti-social behaviour. The properties on the site have remained unfinished for some time.
The blaze was eventually brought under control leaving a large area smouldering.
Previously, the PSNI had said they were “aware of issues in the area and have dealt with incidents such as anti-social behaviour, criminal damage and reports of concern for safety”.
The Police and Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service have not yet released any statements on the incident.
