Members of the public were allowed to vote for their favourite places, followed by secret diner visits to ensure they fulfilled the criteria, with the city centre cafe coming out on top.
The criteria looks at the food, the ethics and the best overall ambience and customer dining experience.
The Café strives to create a different way of eating, providing fresh, homemade, local, fair-trade and organic when and where they can.
Members of the Legendary Food network, Hidden City Cafe support a score of local artisan producers such as Rough Brothers craft beers, Broighter Gold oils, Donegal Prime, Holywell Trust Rooftop Garden, local seasonal veg suppliers and Ann Maries Vegan Cakery to name but a few.
Taking to social media, Hidden City Cafe said the award was in recognition of their "wonderful staff".
They said: "Delighted to add to our awards with # thefoodawards.
"It's lovely for us as independent business owners and recognition for our wonderful staff. Chuffed."
Justin McNicholl established Hidden City Cafe four years ago, with a business plan that originated more than twenty years ago.
Speaking to MyDerry previously, Justin said local support had seen them become one of the hidden gems of the city.
He said: "Our team is phenomenal. I could walk out this door and know they have my back and will keep this place going.
"The reviews that we get are always complimentary towards the service which I find integral to the success of our service.
"The people that walk through the door should be treated like kings and queens because they are supporting us and helping us deliver to the best of our ability."
